This is the Saskatchewan Program’s second largest haskap berry. Fruit averages 2.6 grams with the largest weighing 3.6 grams. The fruits are rounded/heart shaped and are firm, making this variety one of the best for mechanical harvesting. It comes into production a year earlier than other varieties. In trials in Poland, it had double the yield of the other varieties in its third year. It ripens a week after Beast.
For Pollination:
If mechanically harvesting fruits, plants solid rows of varieties, but make sure Beast rows are next to Blizzard or Beauty rows.
If hand picking fruit, yields will be a bit higher if varieties are mixed within rows. Many growers are happy with a compatible pollinator plant every 4 or 5 plants (20 to 25% ratio). Beast would be the pollinator for either Blizzard or Beauty.
