They are first year flowering, upright stems, and upward-facing flowers as the breeder claims. Deep Blue & White has flowers with a mixture of dark indigo blue and white shades. Aquilegia is especially lovely when allowed to naturalize in shady, woodland borders. They also have excellent potential as cut flowers, lasting up to 2 weeks in a vase.
